This restaurant features small plates with the idea that the menu will contain something that would be popular in each of the 50 states. One can order a pate with 3 tiny sandwiches, for example. There are many, many choices. It is a lot of fun! In the 2 times I have eaten there, once for lunch and once for dinner, it was very busy and a bit noisy. If you enjoy liveliness and don't mind some noise, it's a great place.

This restaurant showcases the cuisine of the American tradition: of memories real or imagined, of grandmothers’ pies, state fair fries, of date shakes and cheese steaks; a Kentucky bourbon fueled culinary road-trip beyond Route 66, from Smithfield Hams to Ipswich Clams.

There's plenty to say about the delicious food and speedy service at 50 Plates. But for the purpose of today's tip, I'd like to focus on their DRINKING CHOCOLATE. The dessert menu, in addition to many chocolate-based confections, offer three types of drinking hot chocolate. The milk is brought to the table pipping hot, next to a frozen stick of fudge. Patrons melt as little or as much as they want of the fudge in the milk.
Personally, I dumped the whole thing in the milk the first time, and found it a bit too sweet. Now I'm using 2/3 of it.
Enjoy!
